History of CUBIC
Hydrographic Printing was born from the inspiration of a single developer.
Focusing on the automotive industry, it enriches people’s life around the world.
- Invention – a coincidence develops into a new technology
- Hydrographic Printing was invented in 1974. A request to decorate the hair dryer with a pattern was the start. While struggling with finding a solution, a researcher took a medicine. When he saw an oblate sticking to his fingertips, the idea for this new technology was born.
- Birth – Opening a path in the world of printing onto three-dimensional substrates.
- We have invented a technology that enables transferring a pattern, printed onto a special water-soluble film that is floated onto a water surface, to materials such as plastic. By utilizing the power of water, printing on complex shapes is made possible. In addition, adjusting the type of ink used, type of coating, and the difference in materials, enables a high freedom of design expression. We have opened a new path in the world of printing onto three-dimensional substrates, where expression was limited.
- Growth – From general merchandise to automotive industry
- At the beginning of development, Hydrographic Printing was applied to watches and general merchandise. Later, as research and development progressed, the variety of expression expanded, and we succeeded in creating unique designs one after another. Hydrographic Printing, that began with general merchandise has now expanded its coverage to automotive, household appliances, cosmetics, sports goods, and interiors.
- Expansion – Expanding globally, providing original technology
- Our business is actively expanding not only in Japan but around the world. In addition to the production business, we are developing a licensing business, providing technology and materials to more than 20 countries and regions. Moreover, we utilize our global network to collect the latest design and material trends reflected in our original design and deliver to customers around the world.
